Vikram took it hard and slapped her before she got out. She wanted to save her marriage and stay with Rustom. Cynthia confesses to falling for Vikram on the encouragement and active planning on Priti’s part – the weakness caused by extended absences of Rustom – but she informs him that she had broken up with him when he saw them together when he had returned. Terrified by the experience, Cynthia meets Rustom in prison – the first time ever she spoke to him after the confrontation.
We know that there are other factors when, though the Navy professes full support for Rustom, two goons sent by the Rear Admiral Prashant Kamath enter Rustom’s house and ransack it in search for some important documents. (It is supposed to be loosely based on a real-life case). (The jury system was in place in the 50s, when this story is set. When Rustom pleads not guilty, a jury is assembled to try the case. Priti, the sister of Vikram is devastated and pleads with the public prosecutor Lakshman Kangani to get Rustom the maximum sentence per law. All the indications point to a man who has decided that he will face the consequences of his crime. So, end of story? No, this is where the story starts! The Parsi community offers to provide him with a good defense lawyer and he declines, preferring to defend himself.
Rustom goes straight to the police station and gives himself up. The servant, hearing shots, rushes in and finds Vikram dead in a pool of blood and Rustom calmly pocketing the pistol and walking out. He goes to Vikram’s office and not finding him, goes to Vikram’s house, asks the servant where Vikram is, and goes into the bedroom that the servant showed. She tries to explain but Rustom walks out on her, gets a pistol from the Naval armory to which he has access and goes in search of Vikram. He then confronts his wife and she admits to the adultery. Now suspicious, he looks for her and finds her together with Vikram. When he comes back early from a trip abroad, he discovers that Cynthia has gone out and accidentally comes across letters written to her by his friend Vikram Makhija.
Rustom is married to Cynthia Pavri (played by Ileana D’Cruz). He won the best actor award for it, and has done full justice to the role of Rustom Pavri, a Parsi Naval officer. Very nice.Īkshay Kumar has done a great job of choosing his characters of late and this is one of his best roles in recent times. It starts out as a simple infidelity and murder case but gets convoluted with layers of other factors that emerge as the movie progresses and the story develops. If you like movies with a twist, you’d definitely love this one.
